This course, run in collaboration with international film specialists in our School of Modern Languages, will provide you with a deeper understanding of the relationship between films and the cultures and societies in which they are created and consumed.
You will have the opportunity to increase your knowledge of different film styles and film makers during the course, which will focus primarily on the cinemas of Hollywood, Britain and Europe. The course will address the key aspects of postgraduate film studies, including the historical research of film industries, formal and thematic film analysis, and the relationship between film and society. This will equip you with the skills to increase your critical awareness of key debates and issues within the field. This degree places particular emphasis on developing your independent learning and advanced research methods and skills, with your dissertation, which will be on a subject of your choice, contributing strongly to the final assessment. This focus will equip you for a career in arts and policy management, film journalism, the film industry or for further study to PhD level.
