The integrated Science, Technology and Engineering (STEM) Foundation Year degrees are aimed at students who wish to study a STEM subject, such as mathematics, but don’t have the traditional entry requirements.
The course is run on the University of Leicester campus like any other, and you will be studying alongside other students who applied for, and slightly missed out on, a place on a course similar to yours. In the first year of this course you will all be working towards passing a foundation year (year 0), which will enable automatic progression onto year 1 of any of our BSc (or MMath) Mathematics courses.
Alongside your academic work we recognise that it is also important you gain experience and develop your skills. Employability skills are embedded into our teaching throughout your studies so you will be developing the skills employers are looking for right from the start of your course. In addition to group work, presentation and communication skills, you will learn a range of the computing and programming skills expected by employers. The 'Business Applications of Mathematics' module gives you the opportunity to experience application of mathematical theory and mathematical modelling in a business context.
Standard XII awarded by the CISCE/CBSE, or another recognised state exam board, with at least 75% overall, you may be considered for admission to a first year Bachelors degree. For many courses at the University of Leicester, you will need 80% overall or higher, along with higher individual marks of 85% in relevant subjects.
