During this course, there will be a particular focus on the application of knowledge and the role of bioscience in modern society. Our course will consider the interaction of biological systems on multiple levels – from molecular biology to whole organism biology within the context of global ecosystems. It will allow graduates to develop the skills to apply concepts in bioscience to solving practical problems. Theoretical knowledge will be reinforced and supplemented with a strong applied and practical focus.Lecturers at University Centre Shrewsbury have specialist knowledge and research experience in human, animal, plant and microbial organisms. You will also be taught by visiting lecturers from academia and industries – including the NHS – who are leaders in their respective fields.
You will cover a wide range of topics to support and extend your knowledge. Theory will then become more applied as you progress into Years 2 and 3. At this point, you will have the option to specialise in one of the three key thematic areas of modern bioscience – animal, plant or microbial systems – since the modules offered in Years 2 and 3 provide the flexibility for you to build a bespoke course that meets your interests.
The options to study a more broad range of topics are also available, allowing those who would prefer a more interdisciplinary approach to bioscience to still tailor their own degree and set them up for a broader range of careers or to provide a strong foundation for postgraduate study.
