BA (Hons) English Language and Literature
Program Description
On this course, you explore a range of key texts in literary and linguistic history, giving you expert insight into the complexity and scope of language and literature in different cultural, professional and historical contexts. In literature, you study texts from core periods of literary history, from medieval to modern day, with a unit focused on world literature. Your English language studies introduce you to the nuts and bolts of language via sounds, words and grammar as well as exploring psycholinguistics, and the role of language in ideology and power.
- In your second and third years, you can follow your interests with units offering specialisms in literature or language, which may include creative writing, children’s fiction, forensic linguistics, or postmodern British and American literature
- Gain from studying with academics who produce world-leading, internationally recognised research
- Explore the Hockcliffe Collection, one of the most important collections of children’s books in the country
- Benefit from a course that prepares you for a range of careers including editing; publishing; journalism; business; and travel and tourism. You can also take your research on to further postgraduate study
- Your second- and third-year units give you the practical skills and theory you need to move on to training to become an English teacher
- Take the course over four years and include a fee-free year in industry (see below), gaining valuable work experience and making contacts for the future
Admission Requirements
- Indian Students:-Year 12 with 55% overall.
- Arab Students:- Any of the following:-
- 2 A level passes (minimum C and D)
- International Baccalaureate (24 points)
- A recognised Foundation degree

Indian Students IELTS Waiver: -
- At least 70% marks in English language course in Higher Secondary School.
- Punjab and Haryana Boards will not get IELTS waive off.
