Program Description

The MA English Literature is a rewarding taught degree which takes you on an exhilarating literary journey using texts from the eighteenth century to the present day. Drawing on staff research expertise from the Romantic period to contemporary literature we explore a range of literary forms and delve into subjects such as historical and contemporary representations of place, the politics of genre fiction, and the representation of gender and sexuality. The dissertation gives you the flexibility to pursue your own research interests with the support and encouragement of a supervisor. Our wider academic community is dynamic so you will also have the chance to take part in additional activities which can include, but are not limited to, open mics, guest speakers, archive and museum visits, poetry readings and more.  The MA is taught by published researchers and writers. The course aims to support you while you develop and hone your critical writing and research skills, all of which are transferable to a range of industries.  You can take our MA for professional development purposes, in order to enhance your career and to increase your employability in the creative arts, education, and heritage sectors. This  degree will also help you to specialise in an area of literary study which can pave the way for doctoral study. 

Admission Requirements

  • Applicants should usually have a first or upper second-class honours degree, in a relevant subject. Students that meet the criteria will be invited for interviews.
  • Selection Procedure:
    Application form, CV, submission of a writing portfolio containing an example of your critical writing (such as an undergraduate essay) and interview (the interview can be conducted via Skype or telephone).
  • General Requirement:-
    • Indian Students-More than 50% in Graduation.
    • Arab Students- 4 year degree 60% or a GPA of 2.5 or above on the scale of 4, 4 being the highest) OR 3 year Honours degree with a 1st Class or 2nd Class.

Remarks:

  • For IELTS Waiver  -  At least 65% marks in English in Higher Secondary School
  • MOI will not be accepted.
  • No IELTS Waiver for Punjab and Haryana
