Program Description

In this creative writing master's, you will be guided by expert writers through each of the core genres of prose fiction, poetry, scriptwriting and creative non-fiction. You’ll be able to experiment with topics, styles, forms and hybrids, leading to a substantial portfolio of original creative work.

Among our innovative approaches to imaginative writing, we encourage students to explore links between texts and other disciplines, such as history, theory, politics, and cultural studies. Different writing techniques and reflective practices will help you advance your skills in textual analysis and encourage you to consider the opportunities and challenges of writing. Creative writing graduates will be well-placed to pursue careers in writing, academia, research, journalism, publishing, teaching, and creative and heritage industries, amongst other occupations. The course also benefits practitioners in these fields who wish to advance their writing or career prospects.A postgraduate degree in this field will allow you to embed the research training necessary for embarking on extended independent scholarship along with the delivery of subject knowledge, understanding and expertise. Graduates have the potential to pursue careers in writing, academia, research, journalism, publishing, teaching, and creative and heritage industries, amongst other occupations.

Admission Requirements

• General Requirement
  • Indian Students- Four year bachelor degree with a minimum of 55% in Final Year (However, if graduating from one of the top universities: Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University (Pune University), Calcutta University, Delhi University, Bangalore University and Madras University; a minimum of 50% in final year is required). 
    Note: More specialised courses require four year bachelor degree with a minimum of 65% in final year.(However, if graduating from one of the top universities: Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University (Pune University), Calcutta University, Delhi University, Bangalore University and Madras University; a minimum of 60% in final year is required).
  • Arab Students-Bachelors Degree with 60% or GPA 2.5/4 for UK 2:2 and GPA 3/4 for UK 2.1
• You should have an honours degree 2:2 or above or an equivalent qualification (both level and grade) from a recognised non-UK university in a relevant humanities or social sciences subject. Other subject-areas may also be considered. Also, some experience of creative writing is expected. Or some knowledge of literature and literary analysis would be beneficial, but it is not a requirement for entry onto the programme.
