Program Description

This option offers a variety of courses in domestic and global politics and policy. The curriculum may be selected by students who (a) wish a liberal arts education; (b) who desire to pursue graduate education in political science or other fields, such as law; (c) who wish to enter government; or (d) who intend to teach in secondary schools. The major in Political Science is designed for students who intend to work in politics, government and public policy; for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the law; or for students who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree in Political Science or other related fields in preparation for university-level teaching. Graduates of the program work in politics, government service, public policy, the nonprofit sector and in the private sector in a variety of fields. Beyond the substance of political science, students in the major hone their analytical reasoning and critical-thinking skills, their writing skills, their communication skills and their research skills. All of these are key characteristics sought after by employers in both the public and private sectors.

Admission Requirements

• Required GPA of 3.0
• ACT and/or SAT. These tests are not required for admission to CSUN.
