MS Biology
Program Description
The M.S. in Biology is a 33-34 hour program with a required thesis based on original research. Faculty with expertise in ecology, genetics, botany, entomology, herpetology, zoology, cell and molecular biology, reproductive biology, microbiology and other fields advise student research. Individual faculty in the Biology Department should be consulted about their research programs. Our diverse experiences and expertise contribute to a high quality educational environment that:
- offers a curriculum in biological sciences emphasizing acquisition of knowledge through integration of theory with practical laboratory and field studies;
- provides opportunities to develop critical scientific reasoning, communication skills and the appropriate use of technology;
- extends our skills and facilities in service to the public as well as to the scientific community.
In summary, the study of biology provides an understanding of life and plays a vital role in the education of the general public who are the stewards of our natural resources.
Admission Requirements
- A minimum of 18 undergraduate hours in the biological sciences and an undergraduate grade point of 2.75 or greater (on a 4.0 scale). Students judged to be deficient in some areas of undergraduate preparation may be assigned certain undergraduate prerequisite courses.
- A official GRE test score with recommended combined verbal and quantitative score of 295.
