Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences-Allied Health
Program Description
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program with a concentration in Allied Health will prepare students for graduate degree programs such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician’s assistant and other chosen allied health professions. The concentration provides a strong foundation of knowledge in the biological sciences, health sciences, public health, humanities, and social sciences. Additional courses in the curriculum for health care management will provide students the opportunity to consider the health care management path in their profession.
Learning Outcomes
This program will provide students with the opportunity to develop the following competencies and ability to:
- Demonstrate a foundation of knowledge in the natural sciences based on theory and laboratory skills.
- Be able to use the scientific method to gather information and to come to conclusions.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically and to be able to solve problems by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the American healthcare system and be able to evaluate and assess policies that might affect access and quality of healthcare.
- Explain the contributing factors such as biological, environmental, social and economic conditions, and government policies that can impact people’s health globally.
- Display an understanding of the multidisciplinary nature of health communication.
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural and social issues.
