Program Description

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program is designed for licensed teachers who seek to deepen their insights into curriculum, instruction, and evaluation of English Learners. Completion of the program, along with a passing score on the required state exam, will qualify a student for a Tennessee endorsement as an ESL teacher. The English as a Second Language (ESL) concentration requires 36 graduate credits and is designed for teachers who seek to deepen their insights into curriculum, instruction, and evaluation of English Learners.  Completion of the program, along with a passing score on the required state exam, will qualify a student for a Tennessee endorsement as an ESL teacher. 

Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • A baccalaureate degree in Engineering or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent.
  •  A minimum grade point average of 2.75 on all undergraduate work taken toward the baccalaureate degree or a 3.0 in the last 60 hours
  • Two Applications: (1) Graduate School Application and (2) Program Application
  • PRAXIS CORE scores or proof of current teaching licensure.
