The Department of Educational Leadership offers a program of study leading to the Master of Science in Education (MSEd). There are two program specializations: teacher leader or principal. There are three pathways that lead to the Principal Endorsement on Illinois’ Professional Educator License, Teacher Leader and/or Initial Administration Certification in Missouri:
This two-year program within the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior can be completed in its entirety by taking courses one evening per week or one Saturday a month, with the exception of the summer term. Students choosing to take classes on Saturday will be required to come to campus four times per semester. Completion of the principal endorsement program (endorsement, master’s or specialist) ordinarily satisfies Illinois requirements for the associated endorsement. The principal endorsement prepares professionals to be elementary, middle school, or high school principals and assistant principals, athletic directors, dean of students, instructional coordinators, and grade-level coordinators. Courses are generally acceptable for certification in other states. The principal endorsement is also one of the pathways to earning a superintendent endorsement in the state of Illinois.
