Program Description

The Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering degree at the University of Mount Union is designed to foster an innovative mindset while offering the crucial knowledge to successfully impact this rewarding and high-growth field. This interdisciplinary program works in collaboration with the successful health sciences programs at Mount Union to provide students with unique hands-on experiences. 
  The biomedical engineering program requires 128-credit hours of coursework, which also fulfills the University’s requirements for its general education program, the Integrative Core. Mount Union’s biomedical engineering major provides an experience that stems from its “Four Pillars of Exceptional Engineering Education.”
Biomaterials

The study of materials (synthetic and natural) that are used in contact with biological systems. Essential introductory knowledge about biomaterials selection, design, limiatations imposed by the technology, and host environment will be presented.

Biomechanics

This course involves the analysis and design of musculoskeletal systems. Basic principles of mechanics, stress, strain, tensor analysis, and elastic solids will be applied to analyze structure and material properties of biological tissue such as skin, tendon, ligament, bone, and cartilage.

Admission Requirements

• An applicant should have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale to be considered for admission
