The Bachelor of Science in mathematics degree at the University of Mount Union develops students’ ability to think critically and use mathematical reasoning to solve complex and everyday problems. Students are challenged and engaged both inside and outside of the classroom through class projects, problem-solving seminars, internships, research opportunities, and math competitions. Mathematics has a rich history at Mount Union and students in the major get to continue to be a part of that tradition. The mathematics degree requires 128 credit hours of coursework, with 46 hours taken in the major. Additionally, the University’s general education program, the Integrative Core, allows students to explore areas of study outside their field of interest while developing essential leadership and communication skills that employers value. The mathematics major curriculum allows students opportunities to engage in research and benefit from opportunities to present work.
The mathematics degree program provides a wide variety of experiential learning opportunities including cooperative education programs, field trips, mathematical and statistics conferences, specialized courses, seminars, guest lecturers, and classroom speakers. Students also have access to networked computer laboratories equipped with mathematical software.
