Bachelor of Communication Disorders

Program Description

A degree in Communication Disorders prepares students to enhance the quality of life for all ages. Communication disorders are found in both children and adults. These disorders include difficulty comprehending, detecting, or applying language and speech skills, as well as hearing impairment. Problems in these areas make it difficult to verbally engage with others. With a major in Communication Disorders, you are trained to give your clients the tools to communicate so they can live a happier life. You may one day teach a young child who cannot speak to say hello for the first time, or help someone learn to speak again after a stroke.

While you are earning your bachelor’s degree, you’ll study speech and language development. You’ll learn about hearing, the practice of audiology, and how to work with patients in a clinical setting. In AUM’s on-site Speech and Hearing Clinic, you will have the unique opportunity to directly interact with patients in a supervised treatment program.
