Political choices at the local, state and federal level have an impact on nearly everything we do. Do you want to ignore the issues, or engage fully so you can ensure that future generations live in a better world? One person can make a difference, whether you choose a career in government, law, politics, international diplomacy, nonprofits or the media. In this degree program, AUM’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration can help you explore the various dimensions of politics and its impact on the United States and beyond. You’ll learn in small classes from respected faculty members committed to providing you with the personal attention you need to succeed. You’ll work on group projects, complete independent research, and have opportunities for real-world work experience through internships.
In courses on American politics, you’ll learn about the complex relationship among Congress, the presidency, and other political institutions. In international relations courses you’ll begin to understand the dynamics of world politics. In comparative politics courses, you’ll explore the factors that make democracy more or less likely, how the transition to democracy can create instabilities, and how differences in countries’ electoral systems can lead to government instability. In public administration courses you will learn about the factors affecting the development and implementation of policies, and the roles of elected and appointed officials, bureaucrats, nonprofit administrators, and citizens in these policy processes.
