Program Description

Computer Information Systems (CIS) is an ever-expanding field that builds skills in information technology (IT) and computer science. Additionally, CIS covers a wide range of business topics. Therefore, you will have the flexibility to work for businesses in any industry or geographical region from anywhere in the world. Businesses rely on data and technology to run daily operations, manage information, make key decisions and communicate with stakeholders. Skilled IT professionals in cloud and on-premise platforms, such as application developers, network security professionals, database administrators, systems analysts and administrators are in high demand.

If you decide to study computer information systems at Western Michigan University, you will learn the critical skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful IT professional in both cloud and on-premise platforms. Your studies will be experiential, with focus on design, development, implementation, troubleshooting, management and use of computer-based information systems.

Admission Requirements

Your transcript is the most important piece of information.  It shows what courses you’ve taken and your grades, which allows us to assess:

• Academic Preparation.  Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure you’re ready for the rigors of college-level work.  We recommend*:
  -  4 years of English
  -  3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
  -  3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
  -  2 years of the same foreign language
• Grade Point Average.
• Grade Trend.  How well you’ve done in your most recent courses.
