Program Description

Western Michigan University's economics in business program develops your abilities to identify complex problems, think analytically and apply strategic decision making processes. This degree prepares you for a career in a number of fields, including commodities trading, journalism and foreign service, among others. You'll go beyond the classroom in this Haworth College of Business program, having the opportunity to join several business-related organizations. You’ll also be equipped with the skills needed to further your professional studies in programs such as economics, law, public administration and more. To be successful as an economics in business major, it is important to apply the fundamental skills learned inside the classroom to real-world experience. Through the Economics Student Association, you will discuss current issues while visiting with economics scholars. In addition, a variety of speakers and other events on campus will help you strengthen the problem-solving skills essential for a successful career in economics. Admission Requirements

Your transcript is the most important piece of information.  It shows what courses you’ve taken and your grades, which allows us to assess:

  • Academic Preparation.  Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure you’re ready for the rigors of college-level work.  We recommend*:
    -  4 years of English
    -  3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
    -  3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
    -  2 years of the same foreign language
  • Grade Point Average.
  • Grade Trend.  How well you’ve done in your most recent courses.
