Program Description

Western Michigan University's healthcare services and sciences program will be a good fit for you if you are:

  • A student who wants to prepare for administrative and other non-clinical positions in health care;
  • Already working in health care and interested in upgrading your knowledge and abilities with a bachelor’s degree; or
  • Interested in applying to health graduate programs after earning their undergraduate degree, including:
    • Addiction studies
    • Audiology
    • Blindness and low vision studies
    • Disability services
    • Health care administration
    • Holistic health
    • Occupational therapy
    • Physical therapy studies
    • Physician assistant studies

In addition to the general bachelor's degree in healthcare services and sciences, students can work with an advisor to create their own path of study to prepare for graduate school or complete one of the following concentrations:

  • The Physician Assistant Preparation Concentration: A preparatory program that prepares students to apply to Physician Assistant graduate programs including, but not limited to, WMU's PA program by including required prerequisites.
  • The Audiology Preparation Concentration: This preparatory program helps prepare students to apply to Audiology doctoral programs. Note: The WMU Doctorate of Audiology programs are suspended through Fall 2023.
  • The Blindness and Low Vision Studies Preparation Concentration: A preparatory program that prepares students to apply to two of WMU's Blindness and Low Vision Studies programs, Orientation and Mobility for Adults or Vision Rehabilitation, by including required prerequisites (these prerequisites are similar to other programs but not identical).
  • The Occupational Therapy Preparation Concentration: A preparatory program that prepares students to apply to Occupational Therapy graduate programs including, but not limited to, WMU's OT program by including required prerequisites.
  • The Clinical Practice in Health Concentration: This option is specifically designed for those who have an associate degree in a clinical area and are licensed or certified in that discipline following a discipline approved licensing exam. You can earn up to 30 credits for your previous work experience.

Admission Requirements

Your transcript is the most important piece of information.  It shows what courses you’ve taken and your grades, which allows us to assess:

  • Academic Preparation.  Successful students are prepared students and we want to make sure you’re ready for the rigors of college-level work.  We recommend*:
    -  4 years of English
    -  3-4 years of math (through second year algebra or pre-calculus)
    -  3 years of natural sciences (two or more with a lab component)
    -  2 years of the same foreign language
  • Grade Point Average.
  • Grade Trend.  How well you’ve done in your most recent courses.

  • Yearly tuition fee is given
  • I20(Visa Letter) can be obtained only after submitting a bank statement with a balance of USD $33,688.
