The M.S. in disaster science and management program approaches emergency management from a distinctly interdisciplinary, research-based point of view. The program emphasizes theories, research methodologies, and policies related to a broad spectrum of issues relating to emergency management. Courses include emphases on disaster response, disaster recovery, social vulnerability, organizational behavior, crisis management, and other important topics. The program builds on the unique strengths and international reputation of the Disaster Research Center (DRC) and related programs and research at the University of Delaware.
Successful masters applicants have undergraduate grade point indexes above 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). In addition, the quality and extent of previous related work or volunteer experience, and the motivation to pursue a professional career in public service or disaster science and management (depending upon the program to which you have applied), are particularly important. We look for a good fit between your interests and our programs.
