Master of Science Special Education

Program Description

The Master's in Special Education prepares educators for initial teaching certification and/or educational diagnostician certification. Members of this program gain advanced expertise in culturally and linguistically responsive special education services to students with both high-incidence and low-incidence disabilities. Theory and pedagogy from English learner education and special education are combined.

In conjunction with the Special Education Master's Degree, opportunities are available to earn additional credentials:

  • Educational Diagnostician Certification: Educational diagnosticians are special education professionals who assess and diagnose children with learning difficulties. This certification requires 33 hours, some of which overlap with requirements of the Special Education Master's Program.
  • Low-Incidence Disabilities Transcripted Certificate: This certification requires 9 credit hours and prepares you to work with students with low-incidence disabilities.

  • Undergraduate performance – GPA (3.0 in last 60 hours)
