Bachelor of Science in Teaching & Learning

Program Description

If you are interested in teaching children from early childhood through the eighth grade or special education at all levels, the Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching and Learning will help you do it. This major incorporates teacher certification preparation into its curriculum through the UH Teacher Education Program.

If you would like to pursue teaching certification at the Secondary level (8th -12th grade) or in art or music, you must major in the subject that you wish to teach. Students interested in teaching at the secondary level must declare an education minor. These students should begin their process by seeing the advisor in the department of their specific major to learn more about requirements. Our future teachers learn to teach with the latest research-based strategies and modern technologies from a world-class faculty. Students participate in continued field experiences, doing the real work of teachers in real schools. The urban setting encourages students to value diversity, and meeting the needs of increasingly diverse classrooms is one of the major goals of the program.
