Master of Engineering in Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems (TU207)

Program Description

This course has been planned in response to a need in Industry for a masters degree programme that addresses the technology of sustainable electrical energy systems and the issues surrounding their integration into electrical power systems. The main themes covered are: electrical power systems analysis, renewable electrical energy technology, power electronics, distributed generation, energy markets and global issues surrounding the supply and demand of energy. The course is aimed at graduate engineers who would like to continue their studies and at engineers who are currently working in the electrical/electronic and related industries who would like to move into an engineering role in the electrical energy systems area.

Career Options

This course will develop the knowledge and skills set required to work at a high level within the research, design and development divisions of companies in the electrical energy sector. Continuing Professional Development: All modules are offered on a CPD basis. Participants who opt to undertake a single module will be given a Single Subject Certificate on successful completion of that module.

Admission Requirements

A minimum Second Class Honours accredited bachelor degree (2.2 grade or higher) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a minimum Second Class Honours accredited degree (2.2 grade or higher) in a related engineering discipline e.g. mechanical, mechatronic or energy engineering. Some candidates may be required as a condition of entry to take specific modules from the School's Level 8 programme, the Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering as appropriate bridging modules. Non-standard applications: Applicants holding a qualification or combination of qualifications deemed by the Institute as being of equivalent standard to the above when taken in conjunction with relevant work experience may also be considered.

Due to the considerable competition for our postgraduate courses satisfying the minimum entry requirement is not a guarantee of a place. Depending on the course of study applicants may be assessed on the basis of academic performance and work/life experience. Applicants may also be required to attend for interview for specific courses.
