MSC Advanced Midwifery Practice

Program Description

ARU we have a track record for innovative midwifery training. If you’re a midwife looking to refine your skills and quickly apply them to your practice, our Advanced Midwifery Practice MSc is for you. As a postgraduate student, you’ll learn to assess the individual needs of women and how to plan, implement and evaluate care that meets the need of mother, baby and family alike. You’ll also recognise and respond to facts that affect the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of mothers and babies while developing essential problem solving skills.

During your MSc Advanced Midwifery Practice, you’ll address one of the major national and international concerns about childbirth: the rising rate of intervention. You’ll explore the concept of ‘normality’ and how this might be promoted during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods, with consideration also given to wider influences on maternal mortality and morbidity. We’ll look at the role of the midwife in supporting women with complex social, emotional and physical needs, and turn our attention to healthcare research – an increasingly important field which you can access, analyse and apply in all areas of patient care.
