Program Description

If you currently work or are planning a career in accounting or taxation with a for-profit organization, not-for-profit organization, or a Federal, State or local government, a General Accounting major is for you. The program enables you to sit for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Examination, but not the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination. However, additional appropriate coursework can be completed to address the necessary CPA Examination requirements. With a Bachelor’s of Science in General Accounting, you’ll understand the business environment, business concepts and ethical responsibilities. You’ll know how to employ accounting principles and procedures for recording and presenting financial results.

Accountants may find work at public accounting firms, corporations, nonprofits, governments or for themselves with a private practice.

Admission Requirements

• Official academic transcripts and/or Foreign Academic Credential Evaluation (FACE)* for all foreign transcripts. Evaluations of foreign transcripts are accepted from any NACES or AICE member such as WES, IFCS, Scholaro, or SpanTran.
• Mercy College takes a holistic approach in reviewing each student’s application. In the admission decision, we review a student’s transcript and academic record, including the courses taken and the grades attained. Other factors considered include the written essay, letters of recommendation, leadership potential, extracurricular and service-related activities.
• We do not require ACT or SAT for international undergraduate students
