Program Description

The MA is a flexible programme, reflecting the nature of education including education research, policy and practice.The MA is designed to support the national mission for education in Wales. The programme is flexible to allow for professionals at different stages of their career to further develop their professional competence and interests in education. You will learn how to undertake and use educational research, to reflect on your own practice, using the latest educational trends and developments, to inform and enhance the way you work.Based in the School of Social Sciences, on our stunning Singleton Park campus, you will study at a programme designed to promote individual and collaborative research activity of international standard.

Postgraduate training is available to enhance academic and professional development, as well as seminar programmes, workshops and international conferences.If you're working as a teacher, lecturer, educational leader, manager, or aspiring to a career in education, the MA will give you an insight into the latest trends and leading research, and how those impact on policy and practice.

The educational landscape in Wales is evolving rapidly and the policy changes taking place will impact significantly on the knowledge and skills required of the teaching workforce. The classroom environment, whether in Wales or elsewhere in the world, is complex and constantly evolving, and teaching therefore requires mastery of a complex set of skills to guide, motivate and facilitate learning.

Admission Requirements

  • General requirement-
    • Indian Students-
      • Successful completion of a relevant Bachelors degree from a recognised institution with either a Second Class Upper Division or a Second Class Lower Division equivalent:
      • Second Class Upper Division equivalent: 60%; or CGPA 6.7 (10 point system); or CGPA 6 (7 point system); or CGPA 3 (4 point system) - including Standard XII in English - 70% or above (or equivalent).
      • Second Class Lower Division equivalent: 55% or CGPA 6.1 (10 point system) or CGPA 5.5 (7 point system) or CGPA 2.67 (4 point system) for institutes of national importance/LLB) including Standard XII in English - 70% or above (or equivalent).
    • Arab Students-Candidates are expected to have successfully completed a relevant Bachelors degree from a recognised institution with a minimum of a Second Class Lower Division: CGPA 2.5 (out of 4.0) or Grade C+ CGPA 3.5 (out of 5) or 75% or Grade C+ with IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each part of the test (or equivalent)
  • The typical entry requirement is an upper second or above, or equivalent in any degree background. Lower grade plus relevant supplemental experience can also be considered. C/4 in GCSE Maths and English required (or equivalent).
