BSc (Hons) Geography and Geographical Information Science
Program Description
BSc Geography and Geographical Information Science is suitable for students with a passion for computing, geography and mathematics, as well as an interest in spatial data. This course will teach students how to understand human-environment relationships and how they vary across time and space.
- This degree will train you as a geographical information scientist. You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, and discussion groups, supported by practical classes and field courses.
- You will study themes including Global Vegetation Patterns and Dynamics, Earth from Space – monitoring environmental change, Plate Tectonics and Global Geophysics.
- Field courses might take you from areas of outstanding natural beauty on our doorstep in the Gower Peninsula, to locations across the world such as Malaysian Borneo, Colorado and Sikkim in the Indian Himalayas.
- You will be prepared for potential postgraduate study in surveying, cartography, remote sensing or Geographical Information Systems.
- Our facilities include a £4.2 million suite of state-of-the-art science laboratories and a high-performance computer laboratory for processing and interpreting satellite earth observation and GIS data.
- You may also find yourself working with our stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer, our climatic test chamber, our mineral magnetic characterisation equipment, or our automatic organic carbon analyser.
- Close relationships with world-leading organisations including the European Space Agency and NASA may prove valuable to you.
Our graduates have become Catchment Scientists, Ecologists, Geographical Data Processors, Surveyors, Housing Officers, Meteorologists, Journalists, Government Advisors and Lecturers.
Admission Requirements
- Arab Students:- Candidates are expected to have achieved one of the following in the relevant curriculum:
- Al-Thanawaya Al-Amah (GSEC): 60% overall including 60% in 5 relevant subjects
- American High School: Minimum GPA 2.0 (70%)
- Cambridge iGCSE: 5 passed with a minimum C grade average
- IB Certificate: Min 20 Points and must pass mathematics
- Indian Students:-Candidates are expected to have achieved 70% Year XII including Standard XII in English - 70% or above (or equivalent).
