Program Description

As a biology for secondary education major, you'll become as adept at teaching as you are behind a microscope. This hands-on program prepares you to teach a range of life-science classes to students in grades 6-12. As biology for secondary education major, you'll join a teacher education program that has been a leader in the field for more than a century. You'll be part of a university classified among the top 5 percent of research institutions in the country.

It's a best-of-both-worlds situation. You'll work with expert faculty who give you hands-on guidance and feedback as you learn to teach, both through observation and practice. In addition to your student teaching, your classes will give you a foundation in pedagogical methods. At the same time, you'll also take biology classes in a world-class environment. You'll learn advanced techniques on the latest equipment in our microscopy facility. You can even take a class at our biological station on Lake Michigan, where you'll explore habitats such as cedar swamps and sand dunes.
