Bachelor of Science Chemistry for Secondary Education

Program Description

STEM is in demand—both for students entering STEM fields, and the teachers who need to prepare them. As a chemistry for secondary education major, you'll  gain the experience in the lab and classroom that you'll need to teach in grades 6-12. We're not just a leader in teacher education. We're also a Carnegie-classified doctoral research institution. That means you'll get intensive, hands-on experience your whole time here. You'll observe and lead classrooms as a teaching major, and conduct research alongside leading chemists. As a chemistry student, you'll complete a capstone project before you graduate. For more than 50 years, that's been the hallmark of our American Chemical Society-certified program. And it's still the only one of its kind among Michigan's public universities. With a faculty member as your mentor, you'll complete a research project about a subject you're passionate about.
