Program Description

Don't choose between being creative or being a business whiz. Marketing uses both your left brain and your right brain. At CMU, you'll learn to build campaigns, manage brands and work with clients — all while keeping an eye on the bottom line. You'll learn how to create, sell and deliver high value solutions to customers in order to fix their problems, satisfy their needs, enhance their standard of living and assist them in their pursuit of success and happiness. Even the best products and services don't just sell themselves. As a marketing major at CMU, you'll develop the marketing awareness to understand consumer behavior and develop brands that speak to people. It's part art and part science, and the end result ensures customers get what they need when they need it, at a price they're willing to pay.

In addition to a basic business foundation, coursework covers marketing strategy, buyer behavior, advertising, sales and research. You'll also learn about logistics, because it's not enough to build demand for a product — you have to deliver.Hands-on experience is a critical part of our marketing program. You'll put lessons to work in the real world, because you learned in the real world alongside professors who've been there and done it. A full-time internship and the chance to collaborate with industry partners on class projects will prepare you for your career. If you're planning a career in a field tied closely to marketing, such as broadcasting or commercial art, a minor can give you the background to be more effective at your job.
