Program Description

If you have an interest in geography and plan to teach in an elementary school, this program is for you. Our interdisciplinary curriculum gives you a strong foundation in geography, American government, history and teaching methods. The study of geography carries important lessons about our planet and how we relate to it. It also helps us understand the myriad connections among people all over the world.

This program immerses you in the study of geography and trains you to teach it. You’ll study topics like how humans use the Earth’s resources and the physical environment of the United States and Canada. You’ll also explore related topics in social studies, from world history to the American system of government to current economic problems. Beyond the classroom, you’ll get hands-on experience as a student teacher in a local school. And you’ll master the teaching skills you need to engage children in the study of geography.
