Program Description

Explore the dramatic possibilities of a life in the theatre. A major in theatre and interpretation immerses you in every aspect of the theatre world, from acting and directing to design and production. Our theatre program combines a strong curriculum, expert faculty, exceptional facilities and outstanding opportunities for hands-on experience in the theatre. You can get involved in productions as early as freshman year. Our annual production schedule includes mainstage shows, summer theatre, dance productions, and studio theatre. Whether you thrive in the spotlight or behind the scenes, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice your art and pursue your dreams.

You can also customize your studies to match your interests and goals. You have several options as a theatre and interpretation major at Central Michigan University:

• Bachelor of science (BS) or bachelor of arts (BA) in theatre and interpretation
• Bachelor of fine arts (BFA) with a concentration in acting and directing
• Bachelor of fine arts (BFA) with a concentration in design and technical theatre

Whichever path you choose, you’ll work with faculty who are dedicated to bringing out the best in you. You’ll also work with visiting artists who are directors, Fulbright scholars, playwrights, designers and performers. In the class and on set, you’ll learn about new concepts in theatre and get insights into professional practice.

• A GPA of 2.5 required in year 12th.
